On May 7, 2024, AFROPOLiTAiN spent the evening with Tiwa Savage as she premiered her film “Water & Garri,” in Manhattan’s Flatiron neighborhood. The evening commenced with mingling, drinks and appropriately themed snacks for the business at hand. The members only Neuehouse was the venue of choice, and it was just intimate enough to make us all feel like friends. Tiwa gave us an exclusive look at the film she not only executive produced, but also starred in, receiving rave reviews from industry outlets, and particularly a glowing ovation from Variety.
The evening’s atmosphere and company helped set the stage for what was to come. Industry insiders, celebrities, those of Nigerian descent, and film enthusiasts alike, came out to support the Afrobeats queen in her debut acting and executive producer role.
After we all had a chance to get acquainted, we were ushered into the screening room to enjoy the film, and partake in a panel discussion with the cast and producers. The conversation was moderated by Asia Ware, fashion and beauty writer at New York Magazine’s The Cut. The participants on the panel of course included Tiwa Savage, her opposite lead actor Andrew Yaw Bunting, the film’s director Meji Alabi, and the film’s executive producers Jimi Adesanya and Vanessa Amadi.
At the close of the evening, we had the chance to get some one-on-one insights from the director of the film, Meji Alabi, and lead actor Andrew Yaw Bunting. Watch our interview below.
