The West African sounds of Mali are in the air. Grammy Nominated Musician and Artist Sidiki Diabaté, better known as the Prince of the Kora, will bring the music of his native country to New York this summer. In Times Square, on July 5, the Prince of the Kora will grace the stage and perform at the Palladium.
With musical talent running deep in his lineage, Sidiki Diabaté is the 72nd generation of the Diabaté dynasty, and his father, Toumani Diabaté, is a legend in his own musical right with two Grammy Award wins and three additional nominations. In fact, one of Toumani’s Grammy Nominations is shared by Sidiki. In 2014, for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, the father and son duo were nominated for their album collaboration “Toumani & Sidiki” in the category of Best World Music Album.
From there, Sidiki continued his music career and established himself as a solo artist in the French music scene. To see a glimpse of some of the more traditional sounds of the kora that fans might expect to hear at Sidiki’s concert in New York, watch a video from his performance with Lamomali, below. The live footage was documented on December 19, in 2017, at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris.
