With the year coming to an end, it’s easy to fall into the trap of beating yourself up for failing to cover more ground. Why haven’t I done more? Am I really pushing as hard as I can? The truth is, beating up yourself is not the way to go. The year 2020 has been a tremendously tough year for everyone on the planet and the fact that you’re even alive, well and able to read this means that you’re definitely doing something correctly. Do you think you need to up your game and smash your goals with the time you have left in the year? Here are some tips to help;
Don’t hate, evaluate!
As mentioned earlier, beating yourself up over unrealised goals can be an irresistible reaction to disappointment. You see, now is not the time for you to be “in retreat” but to go on a retreat. That’s right, the first place to start your turnaround is by taking stock of your situation. During your time of reflection, make a list of all the goals you’ve accomplished so far.
Think about the behaviours that pushed those goals to completion and write those down too. It could be more effective use of your hours in the day or a restructuring of daily tasks from the most important to least valuable. Next, apply those strategies to the goals that aren’t yet realised.
Renew your vows
This is going to seem like an odd analogy but here goes anyway: think of your objectives for 2020 like a marriage. Sometimes all you need is to remind yourself of the love and passion that has gotten you this far in order to go the rest of the way. So, it’s a good idea to renew the vows you’ve made to yourself .
It’s true there are times the passing months can feel like the advance of the doomsday clock. With each elapsed month, you may feel you’re being inched towards the abyss of failure or underachievement. The only way to combat your brain’s unauthorised programming is to write your own code. Remind yourself of your capabilities and your vision for your life and your business.
Create an Action Plan
Action plans give you precious clarity on your goals. That’s because they give a window into how you’re actually going to achieve them. Go into each week with a plan of action, a list of tasks which must be completed, get to bed earlier, get to work earlier, isolate and eliminate time-wasting activities, allocate more time to consuming content that can help you advance your goals.
These are just a few suggestions. You can of course add to them to suit your particular circumstances. The objective here is to help you back on track with some actionable tips that will get your goal-crushing engine humming along again.
In every moment, a chance to turn it around
Nothing is wrong with feeling disappointed with your pace of progress. At the mid-year mark, we all think we should have accomplished more at this stage. No matter how intelligent, experienced or skilled you are, every one of us can use a bit of perspective now and then. It’s good to stand back, take a wide angle look at what you’ve done so far. Chances are, you’ve probably achieved more goals than you think.
All that’s needed now to pick up the pace for the rest of 2020 is a bit focus and the strategies laid out here. As human beings, we are subject to circumstances and fate beyond our influence. The only thing within our power is how we react to them.
