Beauty is not just one thing. It’s not just appearance, it’s not just the way someone photographs, and it is definitely not just about the physical. It involves the spirit. True beauty is mesmerizing and captivating. It is more about what exudes from the inside than what is simply on the outside. It’s being able to show up in a pair of sunglasses, a t-shirt, jeans and capture the attention of everyone in the room. What we’re describing here is our time with AFROPOLiTAiN cover beauty Megalyn Echikunwoke.
We sat down with the über talented actress at The AllBright West Hollywood. Echikunwoke was recently featured in a powerful documentary, celebrating the female voice, LA Woman Rising, directed by Nana Ghana and executive produced by Rosario Dawson. While the actress was supporting Ghana, we caught up with her to have an in-depth conversation about her work, how she chooses roles and what really moves her.
We found out that Echikunwoke has not only continued to soar as an actress and performer, but she also ran the New York City Marathon in an impressive four hours and twenty two minutes to support Amref Health Africa. With a brand new show on FOX, Almost Family, Echikunwoke is a huge advocate for complex women characters that allow the feminine spirit to come alive.
