Serena Williams surprised all her fans when she made the announcement that she would be retiring from tennis after this year’s U.S. Open. In the cover article for Vogue, Serena said she would like to concentrate more on her life off the court. She will be transitioning into spending more time on her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures.
Williams started the venture nine years ago, and has been an early investor in companies like Impossible Foods, MasterClass, Noom and more. In addition to finding and investing in companies that are often run by women of color, Serena plans to spend more time with her daughter and family.
In the interview, Serena shared that she often hears her daughter, Olympia, wishing for a baby sister. Williams has four sisters and implied that she would love Olympia to be able to experience being a sister also. At age 41, she sees this as an opportunity to step into a new phase of her life.
