Lagos Fashion Week celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary and appropriately names the theme, “The Future Is Now.” The fashion event is Omoyemi Akerele’s brainchild. She launched Lagos Fashion Week when she was a lawyer, who moonlighted as a stylist. At that time, it was just an idea, but since then it has grown into an acclaimed fashion platform, and the world has taken note. Akerele has built Lagos into the fashion capital of Africa, establishing it as a discovery site for new, rising and now established talent. Among those designers are Kenneth Ize, Maki Oh, and Lisa Folawiyo.
Here are some of the standout designs that showed during the event. One of our favorite showings comes from designer Bridget Awosika. Described as “elegant, poised, effortless, and a minimalist,” the collection embodied the elements of a woman. The detailing is exquisite and the movement of the fabric, goddess-like.
The following designs are by CUTE-SAINT, making their debut in the format of a mini collection. With bold colors and gorgeous patterns, these design pieces stood out for their focus on zero waste, and goals to reduce their carbon footprint in the production of the fashion ensembles. Recyclability was a driving force behind the plans for these pieces and earned them a position in the Fayrouz powered Green Access 2021 Selection.
