AFROPOLiTAiN sat down with Artist Fally Ipupa to ask him about his new music video “Mayanga.” Ipupa collaborated with the Vlisco brand and its “The Garden of Sisterhood” campaign to help bring his vision for the video to life. With gorgeous women adorned in Vlisco’s vibrant fabrics, distinct patterns and vivid colors the visuals come together beautifully. The picturesque scenes layered under Ipupa’s smooth vocals are juxtaposed against the sultry background of Côte d’Ivoire. Read on below where we ask Ipupa, one-on-one, about how this vision came to life.

What motivated you to collaborate with Vlisco on “The Garden of Sisterhood” campaign, and what does this project
mean to you personally?

The African woman—her strength, beauty, and resilience—deeply inspires me. This was an elegant and sincere way
to pay tribute to her.

This campaign seamlessly blends fashion, music, and storytelling. How did you approach integrating your
musical talent into this narrative?

Music is the soul. I laid down my words like a pattern on wax fabric: with care, with heart. I wanted each note to tell
a story, to touch, to uplift.

The music video was recorded in Côte d’Ivoire and directed by Daniel Obasi, with styling by Loza
Maléombho. What was your experience like working with such a talented creative team?

Everyone brought their excellence to serve a shared dream. We spoke the same language: that of a proud and
creative Africa.

Vlisco fabrics carry deep cultural significance. In your view, how do the creations featured in this campaign
reflect female empowerment and solidarity?

These fabrics celebrate women—their stories woven with courage and light. Fashion here becomes a soft cry of
shared power.

Beyond the stunning visuals, the campaign emphasizes community and shared strength. How do these themes
resonate with you and your music?

The strength of the people, unity, memory—these are pillars in my songs. This campaign dresses them in color and
makes them even more visible.

What message do you hope women in Africa and beyond take away from this campaign?
That they have nothing to prove to anyone. That they are beautiful, powerful, and that together, they move
mountains.

As an iconic artist with a global audience, how do you see your influence amplifying the campaign’s message
of connection and empowerment?

I’m fortunate to have a voice that travels. If it can carry messages of love, unity, and upliftment, then I lend it to
causes that matter.

Vlisco has a long tradition of storytelling through fabric. How do you see “The Garden of Sisterhood” campaign
continuing this legacy through music and visuals?

It’s heritage revisited, elevated. A tradition dancing with the future, carried by faces, voices, and fabrics that live.

Finally, what’s next? Can we expect more collaborations blending music, art, and fashion in the future?
Art never sleeps. And as long as there are stories to sing, colors to wear, and causes to champion, I’ll be there.
