The majority of the population wake up at the latest time, and dash out of their houses. There is another group of people out there who are able to accomplish a lot in that time between waking up and getting out of the house for work. They set themselves up for a productive and successful day. Their secret might be simpler than we think. Shift how we lay out our day and we’ll enjoy the benefits of a well-planned intentional morning.

The Early Bird Catches The Worm

Successful people start their day very early. Eric Thomas, one of my favourite motivational speakers, wakes up at 3 am every single day! As crazy as that sounds, if you listen to his success story you’ll realise he’s tapped into a winning formula. Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple wakes up at 4.30 am daily. Indra Nooyi, CEO of Pepsico wakes up at 4 am. Disney CEO, Bob Iger wakes up at 4.30 am. If these people who have achieved the pinnacle of success are able to rise early, what business do I have sleeping in until 7 am?

   Exercise

There are so many benefits to exercising in the morning before the day starts. Not least because you’re more likely to actually do it before the busyness of the day sets in and motivation dwindles. Additionally, morning workouts enhance your metabolism, help cultivate consistent habits and strong self-discipline. Exercise also increases your physical and mental energy and helps you to sleep better at night.

   Eat A Nutritious Breakfast

Having food and drink within the first hour of waking up prepares your body and mind for success. But don’t just eat anything – instead, have a healthy and nutritious breakfast. Eat a breakfast that won’t leave you feeling stuffed and tired before the day’s even properly started. Breakfast is, after all, the most important meal of the day. Give your body the proper fuel it needs for optimal performance.

Set Goals/ Plan Your Day

Many people often talk about  goal setting which is how to set goals and the importance of doing so. Starting the day on a positive note by checking how well you did with the previous days’ goals and celebrating the goals already achieved can help set the tone for the day and motivate you to achieve even more success by accomplishing even more goals. Start with the most important goal first.

Make Your Bed

This may seem insignificant but Charles Duhigg, the author of ‘The Power of Habit’, explains that daily bed making becomes a keystone habit, something which kickstarts a chain of other good decisions throughout the day, and gives you a sense of taking charge. If nothing else, making your bed will prevent the urge to get back into it for a quick snooze!
