On September 13, 2025, Kinshasa, RDC witnessed a vibrant celebration of fashion, culture, and artistry as Vlisco unveiled its latest flagship boutique, Vlisco 30 Juin, in the heart of the city. The Dutch heritage brand, renowned for its iconic printed fabrics, marked this milestone with an immersive new retail concept designed in collaboration with the internationally acclaimed architectural firm OMA.

This new space is more than just a boutique — it is a tribute to the enduring influence of Congolese women on African and global fashion.
A Dialogue Between Heritage and Modernity

For nearly 180 years, Vlisco has been synonymous with artistry, storytelling, and craftsmanship. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, its fabrics are cherished as cultural treasures and symbols of identity, pride, and self-expression. With the launch of Vlisco 30 Juin Kinshasa, the brand blends its rich heritage with contemporary design to create a groundbreaking shopping
experience.

The boutique unfolds across three distinctive zones:
– A market-inspired display showcasing the full fabric collection in bold, vibrant arrangements.
– An exploration area designed for close study of fabric details.
– A private salon, where visitors can experience tailored fittings in an intimate space that doubles as a gallery of original design drawings.

Adding to this atmosphere are artworks by Congolese artists and bespoke furniture by Ivorian designer Jean Servais Somian, whose creations merge ancestral practices with contemporary expression. A lush garden and pergola surround the store, offering a welcoming and communal space for visitors.

Exclusive Collections
The Kinshasa flagship highlights Vlisco’s most treasured collections, including Satin Royal, Grand Super-Wax, and Radiance, the brand’s first woven jacquard. Presented through elegant lighting and display systems, these fabrics showcase Vlisco’s unparalleled mastery of color and design.
Architecture Meets Fashion
The store’s spatial design, conceived by OMA, reflects the one-yard unit — the fundamental measure of Vlisco textiles — with adaptable cabinets that celebrate the versatility of fabric.
Indigo-inspired hues, copper finishes, and wenge wood details nod to the cultural richness of the region, creating a dialogue between architecture, design, and fashion.
A Celebration of African Creativity

Speaking at the launch, Perry Oosting, CEO of Vlisco Group, noted: “Vlisco has always been about dialogue, between cultures, generations, art, and fashion. With Vlisco 30 Juin Kinshasa, we celebrate the creativity of Kinshasa and strengthen our commitment to the DRC.”
The evening was a true celebration of African fashion, artistry, and community — and Afropolitain Magazine was proud to be there, capturing this historic moment for the culture.
