Depending on how you value and measure yourself, professional success is something many people want to reach. Fortunately, fitness has a lot to teach us in that matter, because sports spirits can help you develop your professional skills.

A Harvard study has found that being fit is not just good for your self-esteem but also for your career. As a matter of fact, if you dig deep, you will see that many successful people are also sports junkies and/or exercise at least 30 minutes a day. I don’t think this is a coincidence.

Working out regularly doesn’t just benefit your body, it helps your brain by increasing your levels of glucose (brain petrol), which feeds your neurons, turning you into a smarter and more positive, productive person.

The physiological benefits from working out and playing sports pay huge dividends in the workplace. In a nutshell, here are the professional benefits you can expect from getting and staying active:

1. You will improve your focus and concentration.

These two are important cognitive abilities because we learn how to pay attention and use our senses. This helps you stay ahead of the game and be more competitive, in a healthy way, at your workplace.

Your learning skills will be improved.

As I mentioned before, exercise helps your brain function at a higher rate because it makes your neurons grow. This is important because knowledge is power in our fast-paced, technological society, but information can become obsolete quickly. Therefore, you need to be able to renew what you know constantly or you will be behind.

You become more efficient.

You will be able to work smarter, not harder to achieve your goals. Sport will help you do more in less time because you will be stronger and impulsed by the endorphins generated, which will help you put that athletic energy into the workforce.

You will set goals.

When you hit the gym or go running with your pals, you are aiming to better yourself. This will push your to do the same in your work, because when you set a goal, you are working to become better at what you do.

As you can see, working up a sweat has more advantages than you think. Choose a physical activity or fitness modality you enjoy, such as CrossFit, HIIT (high-intensity interval training), Zumba, yoga, basketball, or boxing, and stick to it in order to have a successful and fruitful career.
