Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua; British Nigerian boxer , unified world heavy weight champion, recipient of the IBF
title from 2016 to 2019, the WBA (Super) title from 2017 to 2019, and the WBO title from 2018 to 2019, holder of the Regional British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles from 2014 to 2016 and until recently, one of the sons Nigerians in particular could not stop gushing about.
Joshua had gained in a short amount of time, wide reaching adoration, especially by Nigerian female celebrities and oh well… Nigerian ladies in general. A cousin of mine had suddenly developed a crush on him, to an alarming extent that she had made T-shirts and bags with his face. And she would write him a love note and send via Whatsapp to her other phone number, with which she had saved his name, in pretense that she was actually texting him.
But only last night, a competitor anyone would have easily dismissed to be no match for our six-packed adorable bunch of masculine flesh. Professionally known as Andy Ruiz, a white fellow belonging to the ‘one-round-pack’ brotherhood, for which many people did not think much of in the heavy weight champion department had miraculously beaten our heavy weight champion like a baby.
Memes of Nigerians both home and abroad, illustrating how physic was not necessarily a manifestation of physical strength has since gone viral, with many calling on Joshua to quit boxing and begin cricketing for falling their hands.
